Taipower's Preliminary Exam Attracts Nearly 12,000 Applicants to Fill Workforce Gaps

Taipower's employee examination took place on the 4th, with nearly 7,000 candidates competing for 1,084 positions. According to Taipower, 6,882 candidates actually showed up, resulting in an acceptance rate of 15.75%. The list for the second round of exams is set to be released on July 15.

Facing a wave of retirements, Taipower is looking to recruit new personnel to ensure stable power supply and progress towards net-zero transformation goals. The current exam covers 15 categories including distribution, transmission, electrical engineering, among others, with the 'Distribution Line Maintenance' category expecting to recruit 489 people, attracting close to 1,800 applicants.

The most competitive category is 'Accounting', where 214 applicants are competing for just 3 positions, yielding a low acceptance rate of 1.4%. This year, the 'General Administration' category has over 6,000 applicants vying for 108 spots, with an additional 32 slots for individuals with disabilities.

To protect candidate rights, the examination period will be monitored by the National Communications Commission and the Integrity Agency. Candidates must obtain a manual small vehicle driver's license prior to the second round, which includes various physical tests. Ultimately selected candidates will undergo 1 year of training, starting with a salary of about NT$36,000.
