Generation Z Disappointed with College Education: The Declining Value of Degrees

As societal views evolve, many young people are questioning the necessity of a college degree. Data shows that an increasing number of young individuals view a degree as a financial burden rather than a prerequisite for success. According to a survey, 41% of millennials and 51% of Generation Z regret spending significant time and money pursuing their degrees.
Additionally, the shift in employer expectations has led to a labor market that prioritizes skills and soft skills over educational background. The narrowing wage gap, rising tuition costs, and increasing student loan burdens have caused young people to adopt a more pragmatic perspective on higher education.
Research from Deloitte indicates that over 60% of Generation Z believes they can succeed in their jobs even without a degree, and 64% feel the need to continuously update their skills. Experts argue that with the rise of artificial intelligence, reform in college education is essential to meet the demands of a rapidly changing job market.
