EVA Air Loses Longest Flight Attendant Strike Lawsuit, $34 Million Claim Dismissed

EVA Air accused the Taoyuan City Flight Attendants Union of 'illegal striking' during a 17-day strike in 2019, but lost all three court appeals. The Supreme Court ruled on April 25 to dismiss EVA's appeal, confirming that the union and 12 officials do not owe compensation.
The strike resulted in the cancellation of 62 flights, affecting thousands of employees and leading to passenger compensations and other losses totaling approximately $34 million. According to the Labor Disputes Mediation Act, employers cannot claim damages for lawful strikes aimed at asserting labor conditions.
