Accounting Industry Faces Over 10 Hours Workdays with Low Salaries

As tax season arrives, accounting firms are racing against time to manage their workload. According to a salary inquiry platform, the average daily working hours in the accounting industry reached 10.14 hours last year, while audit staff earned an average monthly salary of only 40,959 NTD. This high workload combined with low pay has led to the accounting industry being dubbed the most "exhausted" profession among white-collar workers.
An accountant mentioned that May is a crucial period for business tax filing, requiring their assistance in completing the annual tax summary and discussing any changes from the previous year. Furthermore, the accounting industry's busy season mainly falls within the first five months of the year, when working hours and pressure peak significantly.
Statistics show that the average daily working hours in the accounting service sector are higher than those in other industries, prompting many firms to introduce AI tools to enhance efficiency and reduce overtime. Experts warn that the mismatch between excessive working hours and salaries could lead to the loss of professional talents, urging companies to reassess their salary structures to retain staff.
