Central Bank to Auction 145 Sets of Special Numbered Banknotes Starting May 15

The Central Bank announced on May 2 that the auction for the 26th series of special numbered banknotes will commence on May 15, conducted through public bidding on the Taiwan Bank website. This auction will feature 145 sets, totaling 5,786 banknotes, marking the fourth highest number for a single auction, with a starting price set at double the face value.

According to the Director of the Issuance Bureau, Teng Yanda, the current auction includes 100, 500, and 1,000 dollar bills. The total revenue from the previous 25 auctions reached NT$116.09 million, contributing NT$80.34 million to the national treasury. Teng mentioned that the auction will run from 10 AM on May 15 until 10 AM on May 20, and interested collectors can participate by visiting the Taiwan Bank website.

This auction allows a maximum of 56 banknotes per set, with the highest starting price at NT$84,000, facilitating complete collection for bidders. Since the first auction in October 2012, the central bank typically holds two auctions per year, in May and October. Teng noted that 100 dollar bills remain the most popular among collectors due to their lower face value and high market demand.
