President Lai Ching-te Emphasizes Mitigating Tariff Impacts to Ensure Job Stability and Labor Security

On the morning of the 29th, President Lai Ching-te met with the National Model Workers and their families, stating that in response to the new U.S. tariff policy, the administration will provide support measures including stabilizing the job market and replenishing the labor insurance fund to alleviate the impact on workers. The President noted that Taiwan's economic growth rate reached 4.59% last year, making it the foremost among the Four Asian Tigers, surpassing major nations like Japan, the U.S., and the EU, also exceeding the global average.

Moreover, he mentioned that Taiwan's GDP has grown from NT$17.5 trillion in 2016 to NT$25.4 trillion last year, establishing Taiwan as the 21st largest economy in the world. He reiterated that these achievements are the result of the hard work of every laborer and migrant worker. The government will continue to implement policies that enhance workers' rights, such as raising the minimum wage for the ninth consecutive year, and will focus on creating a stable and sustainable labor environment through improved labor standards and vocational training.
