Labor Insurance Bureau Warns: Two Occupational Unions in Arrears on Payments May Affect Insurance Benefits

Over 3 million workers in Taiwan have joined labor insurance through occupational unions, but the Labor Insurance Bureau recently pointed out that two unions—the Taipei City Hairdressing and Beauty Technology Guidance Union and the Taoyuan City Rental Management Services Workers Union—have failed to pay their labor insurance and occupational accident insurance premiums on time.
To safeguard their rights, union members should regularly monitor their union's financial operations and actively participate in union activities. Members are advised to request formal payment receipts from their unions when paying insurance premiums.
According to the Labor Insurance Bureau, if unions fail to remit premiums on time, their members may face temporary denial of insurance benefits, significantly impacting their rights. If members can provide proof of payment (such as receipts or transfer slips), benefits will be issued; otherwise, arrangements will be made for members to clear their personal payment obligations before disbursing benefits.
The Bureau also indicated that if a union has not paid insurance premiums for two months, they will not be allowed to continue collecting insurance premiums in advance.
