Trump's First 100 Days: Analyzing Intensified US-China Relations and Global Economic Turmoil

On April 25, Tunghai University and the Asia Political Economy and Peace Exchange Association held a seminar titled "Trump's First 100 Days" to delve into the impacts of Trump's administration on global affairs and US-China relations.

Since taking office, Trump's policies have intensified competition with China, leading to significant shifts in global political and economic landscapes. Professor Shen Youzhong from Tunghai University noted that Trump's approach to China lacks overall strategy, contributing to a new Cold War dynamic, and emphasized the need for the US to collaborate with allies to formulate a cohesive economic and security strategy towards China.

Furthermore, Trump has significantly reduced the staff of the State Department, impacting human rights diplomacy; however, Taiwan is still regarded as an important partner in the Indo-Pacific strategy. In economic terms, Taiwan has been less affected due to its effective supply chain and semiconductor positioning, and it actively seeks to expand energy cooperation with the US to strengthen economic ties.

Experts suggest that Trump's narcissistic traits influence US-China interactions, while the politicization of China's technology policy becomes apparent. Although China maintains a tough stance, it still hopes to negotiate with the US. If Trump is re-elected, the likelihood of concessions from China may decrease. Overall, the global market is facing increased uncertainty.
