Pilots and Actuaries Earn 3.6 Million, Yet Two Occupations Fall Below 29,000 Monthly

According to the Ministry of Labor's 2024 salary survey, airline pilots earn an annual salary of 3.638 million, while actuaries earn 3.625 million. However, two occupations have an average monthly salary below 29,000.

The survey revealed that the average salary for laundry and ironing workers is 29,829, followed by leather processing workers at 29,950, and waste collection and recycling workers at 30,281.

Despite the hospitality industry facing a labor shortage post-pandemic, housekeepers have seen minimal pay raises, with a 2024 monthly salary of 30,941, only increasing by 2.3% from the previous year, far below the median salary of 37,000.

Employers are pushing for the government to allow foreign workers to fill labor gaps, and the Ministry of Labor is working on matching projects, while the Executive Yuan has indicated that more foreign workers will be introduced to meet industry demand. However, it remains to be seen if employers will genuinely increase wages to attract talent.
