Tariff Spikes Electronic Sector Surge Orders, March Power Consumption Soars

The Taiwan Institute of Economic Research recently projected a 3.5% economic growth rate for March. The uncertainty brought by Trump's tariff policy has led customers in the electronic sector to place orders ahead of time, resulting in a surge in urgent orders for the semiconductor and electronic industries. According to the TIER’s EPI power economy index, semiconductor power consumption surged 9.46% in March, while the electricity usage in the computer, electronic, and optical products sector rose to 10.87%, significantly higher than the overall manufacturing sector's performance.

This strong demand has prompted production lines to operate at full capacity, indicating a noticeable recovery in activities, with projected economic growth rates of 3.5% for March and 3.1% for the first quarter. Since early March, urgent orders in the semiconductor and communications industry surged due to the uncertainty from the U.S. tariff policy, maintaining positive growth in industrial power consumption.
