New Twists in US-China Tariff Negotiations as Trump Reveals Recent Talks

The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized yesterday that there has been no dialogue regarding tariffs between the US and China, nor has any agreement been reached. However, President Trump stated that there was indeed a meeting this morning, but he did not disclose who attended. Despite the conflicting statements, the potential easing of the trade war, along with the Federal Reserve hinting at a possible rate cut in June, has led to three consecutive days of gains in the US stock market.

In recent days, Trump's stance towards China seems to have softened slightly, as he maintains there is dialogue between the two nations. He remarked, "They had a meeting this morning, and while I can't tell you who they are, it doesn't matter. We will announce this later."

Additionally, Federal Reserve official Waller stated that the purpose of the meeting was to gather public opinions on monetary policy. Meanwhile, Trump's trade team has been in communication with 34 countries this week, including India, Thailand, Vietnam, and Norway. Secretary Mnuchin indicated that a preliminary understanding with South Korea might be reached as early as next week. He noted, "We held a very successful bilateral meeting with South Korea today, and we might begin discussing technical details as early as next week."

Regarding the tariff issue on chips, reports indicate that customs in cities such as Kunshan, Zhongshan, and Shenzhen have issued internal notifications to suspend tariffs on American-made chips, except for those with storage functions.
