Rising Mortgage Pressure! Young Man Juggles Three Jobs to Survive

In recent years, inflation has surged, causing prices to rise and putting a strain on young earners. According to 1111 Job Bank, 35-year-old Mr. Wang is juggling three jobs while trying to repay his mortgage, managing just two hours of sleep a night and relying on expired food for meals.
Mr. Wang works as an operations analyst for a chain beverage company, with a salary that has increased from over 30,000 to 50,000 NTD. However, after purchasing a home, he has found himself in a financial quagmire. Three years ago, he borrowed 18 million NTD to buy a house in New Taipei with an initial two-year grace period for the mortgage. Unfortunately, due to housing regulations, he could not extend this period, and his monthly payment skyrocketed from 20,000 to 60,000 NTD.
Faced with overwhelming debt, he is forced to work multiple jobs to make ends meet, taking on night shifts at a convenience store on weekdays and working as a security guard on weekends. Though he earns nearly 30,000 NTD extra each month, he only gets one to two hours of sleep daily, relying on his commuting time for rest.
Mr. Wang believes that the ongoing US-China trade war will further complicate his company’s supply issues, as they rely on imported materials from the US. 1111 Job Bank reports a significant increase in job seekers looking for second income opportunities, reflecting the high demand for part-time work in today’s economy. They recommend leveraging available tools to enhance job-seeking efficiency and create more income opportunities.
