Security Guard's Dramatic Career Shift: From 400,000 to 3,000,000 Annual Salary After Computer Science Degree

A private university graduate who worked as a security guard has transformed his life through continuous study and hard work, successfully enrolling in a prestigious computer science program at one of the four major universities. After graduating, he transitioned to a tech company as an engineer, with an annual salary skyrocketing from less than 400,000 to over 3,000,000.
This former security guard shared his experience in the forum Dcard, stating that after seeing many success stories of computer science graduate admissions online, he was deeply inspired to change his life by applying to grad school. Despite coming from a liberal arts background, he dedicated his work hours to study, spending weekends in libraries and gyms preparing for the exams.
After two years of hard work, he successfully gained admission to a computer science program at one of the top universities, including National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, and National Cheng Kung University. He noted, “I used to earn 400,000 as a security guard, and now my salary is over eight times that amount.” Although he faced challenges during his studies, such as finding a thesis advisor and extending his graduation, he ultimately graduated and secured a position at a leading tech company.
According to a survey by 104 Job Bank, 66.7% of alumni from computer science departments stated they would choose the same major if they could relive their lives. Furthermore, statistics from Graduate School show that graduates from top universities in computer science enjoy high starting salaries, with National Chiao Tung University averaging about 56,000, National Taiwan University around 55,000, and National Cheng Kung University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and National Central University at approximately 50,000.
This individual encourages those looking to switch careers by saying, “If you have a degree but haven't found your footing yet, it may just be that you haven't met a mentor yet. Just keep persevering, and you will see results.”
