March Unemployment Rate Rises to 3.35%, Experts Downplay Trump Tariff Concerns

The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics announced today (22nd) that the unemployment rate for March 2025 is 3.35%, an increase of 1,000 from the previous month. Seasonally adjusted, the unemployment rate is 3.36%, up by 0.01 percentage points from last month. Chen Songxing, an adjunct professor at Chinese Culture University, stated that there is no need for excessive concern about Trump’s tariffs, and the government's 88 billion support plan can effectively stabilize the job market; attention should be paid to the situation in the next two quarters.

The Deputy Director of the Statistics Department, Tan Wenling, indicated that the unemployed in March amounted to 403,000, with a higher unemployment rate due to factors such as first-time job seeking or career adjustments. The number of job seekers dissatisfied with their previous jobs has increased by 3,000. Chen Songxing added that the March figures do not fully reflect future trends, and the impact of equal tariffs necessitates further observation, especially in the second and third quarters.
