Texas Woman's Lottery Win Canceled, $83.5 Million Disappears Amid Lawsuit

A woman from Texas recently faced a major setback when her lottery ticket, which won $83.5 million, was declared invalid, prompting her to sue the Texas Lottery. According to a report by CNN, the angry lottery winner, Jane, purchased her ticket through the 'Jackpocket' app on February 17 and struck it rich with the winning amount.
However, the Texas Lottery announced the win was invalid a week after the drawing, claiming that Texas law prohibits third-party vendors from purchasing lottery tickets on behalf of customers. Jane emphasized that the Texas Lottery had no right to change the rules after the drawing, stating, 'If you win, you should get the prize.'
While purchasing tickets through third-party vendors may raise concerns, this service has been operating in Texas since 2019 and is allowed in 19 other states across the U.S. In fact, there is no explicit prohibition in Texas law against such services. In response to the controversy, the Texas Lottery stated that they would not comment further due to the ongoing litigation.
