Central Bank to Auction Special Number Bills Starting May 15, Proceeds of 80 Million to Go to National Treasury

The Central Bank announced that it will hold an auction for the 26th series of special number bills from 10 AM on May 15 to 10 AM on May 20 via the Taiwan Bank website. A total of 145 sets, comprising 5,786 special number circulating bills, will be released, marking the fourth highest number of bills auctioned in a single series to date. The denominations include NT$100, NT$500, and NT$1,000, with a starting price set at twice the face value.

As of the 25th series, total auction proceeds have reached NT$116.09 million, of which NT$80.34 million has been injected into the national treasury. Unique numbers such as '168168' and '168888' are highly sought after by collectors. Each set contains a maximum of 56 bills, with a top starting price of NT$84,000, auctioned as complete sets.

The Central Bank indicated that since launching the first series of special number bills in October 2012, it has held two auctions each year and noted the increasing bidding enthusiasm, aiming to attract more collectors in the future. Adjustments to the auction scale will be made based on market responses to achieve dual goals of meeting collector demand and increasing national treasury revenues.
