Taiwan and US Complete First Round of Equitable Tariff Negotiations, Led by Cheng Li-chun: Continued Engagement Expected

On May 1, Taiwan's Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun and chief negotiator Yang Cheng-nin concluded the first round of face-to-face negotiations on equitable tariffs and trade issues with the US in Washington, D.C.
During the discussions, both parties engaged in extensive dialogues regarding tariffs, non-tariff trade barriers, and various aspects of Taiwan-U.S. economic cooperation. The Trade Office noted that the atmosphere was sincere and amicable, with both sides expressing their hopes for enhancing Taiwan-US trade collaboration and creating more opportunities for their respective industries and economic development. Cheng stressed that the high degree of economic complementarity between Taiwan and the U.S. would help to strengthen global competitiveness, and that ongoing discussions based on mutual understanding would foster greater consensus.
