NTD's Surge Raises Concerns; KMT Legislator Blames Government Ineptitude

KMT legislator Hsu Yujhen indicated that the new Taiwan dollar (NTD) has rapidly appreciated against the US dollar due to the imposition of equivalent tariffs by the US, rising by 1.5 yuan in the past week. This has inflicted significant losses on those holding dollar assets and foreign trade enterprises. Hsu criticized the government for being ineffectual, prioritizing superficial stability over the welfare of the people.
She further claimed that in the face of the tariff war crisis, the government failed to respond actively and has attempted to stealthily allocate over 300 billion New Taiwan dollars in special budgets during this turmoil, shifting the burden of the ruling party's erroneous energy policies onto the populace.
Hsu emphasized that both traditional and high-tech industries have faced substantial compression in profit margins due to the dual impact of high tariffs and rapid NTD appreciation, raising concerns about the future of Taiwan's economy.
She calls for the government to cease internal strife and present constructive measures to help the citizens navigate through the crisis.
