U.S. National Security Advisor Waltz and Deputy Wong to Resign Amid Signal Leak Criticism

According to Reuters, U.S. President Trump's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Deputy Alex Wong are set to resign, marking a significant restructuring of the core team during Trump's first 100 days in office. Reports indicate that Waltz was involved in a leaking incident concerning U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth in March related to the messaging platform Signal, leading to internal criticism from the White House.

It is currently unclear who will replace Waltz, with one option being U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East issues Steven Witkoff, who also serves as Trump's informal envoy, particularly regarding communications with Russian President Putin.

Hegseth has been revealed twice to have disclosed sensitive information regarding U.S. airstrikes on Yemen through Signal chats, with one instance occurring in a group created by Waltz where an editor from The Atlantic was mistakenly added, sparking subsequent leak controversies. Although Trump has expressed support for Waltz, his standing in the White House has never truly recovered, resulting in diminished respect among senior aides.
