Shopee's Profit Sharing Reporting Issue Raises Controversy: User Reported 4 Million in Tax but Received Only 700 TWD

Recently, Shopee's profit-sharing program has come under public scrutiny due to reporting issues. A user participating in the program revealed that his tax statement showed an income of 4 million TWD, despite not engaging in any sales, resulting in a tax bill exceeding 700,000 TWD.
This user's account indicates that the profit-sharing plan was intended to offer users a promotional channel through social media, allowing them to earn cash rewards through personalized marketing links. However, numerous participants found discrepancies in their tax statements, particularly concerning the 'Other Income' section.
The National Taxation Bureau advised that if individuals find inaccuracies in Shopee's reported amounts, they may correct them during actual tax filings and submit a correction application. Shopee has pledged to coordinate with tax officials to amend erroneous submissions to protect user rights.
