Chinese Yiwu Manufacturers Explore New Markets Amid Trump Tariffs

Known as the 'largest small commodity wholesale market in the world', Yiwu City in Zhejiang Province, China, is facing severe impacts due to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. Many local manufacturers are seeking new customers to expand their market as business with the American market has virtually stalled.
Recent reports indicate that businesses in Yiwu are employing innovative strategies, including using AI technology to translate their products into over 30 languages for live-stream selling to attract overseas customers. Despite a significant hit to their U.S. sales, one business leader, Nie Ziqin, who runs a Halloween supplies company for nearly 20 years, expressed her determination to pivot to the European market, stating, “If the U.S. wants it, they can come and take it; if not, I’ll just supply the EU.”
Another entrepreneur, Fu Jiangyan, who operates a sock business with her husband, has generated promotional videos using DeepSeek and translated them into 36 languages, successfully attracting foreign clients.
