US-China Tariff War Escalates! 50 Boeing Aircraft Face Returns, China's C919 Aircraft Also Faces High Tariffs

The US-China tariff war is heating up, impacting Boeing while posing significant challenges for China's independently developed C919 aircraft. Reports indicate that experts warn a 125% tariff imposed by the US on China could result in billions of dollars in losses if China continues to purchase Boeing aircraft, leading to the potential return of 50 planes scheduled for delivery this year.
Furthermore, although China's C919 aircraft is under development, 90% of its components still rely on supplies from the US and other Western countries. The Chinese government may consider granting tariff exemptions for these components to avoid impacting C919's production schedule.
Rajiv Biswas, CEO of the Asia-Pacific Economic Research Institute, noted that the C919's heavy reliance on American-made parts could severely strike China's aviation industry if the 125% tariffs on American commercial planes and parts cannot be waived. Boeing's CEO Kelly Ortberg also revealed that China has already returned two ordered aircraft, with a third in return transit. Initially planning to deliver 50 aircraft to China this year, it is now expected that China may not accept these aircraft, and Boeing plans to resell them to other customers.
