Gasoline Prices Remain Steady in Taiwan, Diesel Increases by 0.2 TWD

Taiwan's CPC Corporation announced that starting tomorrow (28th) at midnight, gasoline prices will remain unchanged while diesel prices will increase by 0.2 TWD. The reference retail prices are 28.3 TWD per liter for 92 unleaded gasoline, 29.8 TWD for 95 unleaded gasoline, 31.8 TWD for 98 unleaded gasoline, and 27.1 TWD for super diesel.

CPC Corporation noted that the recent alleviation of high tariffs on major countries by the U.S. has led to an increase in international oil prices. According to the floating price adjustment principle, the 7D3B weekly average price rose by 1.04 USD last week, and the exchange rate of the New Taiwan Dollar against the U.S. Dollar appreciated by 0.036 TWD, with an increase of 1.15%. Based on the adjustment mechanism, both gasoline and diesel should each rise by 0.2 TWD. However, to maintain prices below those of neighboring Asian countries (Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore), gasoline absorbs 0.2 TWD, resulting in the price of 95 unleaded gasoline being below 30 TWD, not reaching the threshold for initiating stabilization measures; thus, domestic gasoline prices remain unchanged, while the diesel price will increase by 0.2 TWD.

This week's price adjustment accounts for the oil price formula and the government tax reduction (2 TWD for gasoline and 1.5 TWD for diesel per liter), while CPC Corporation will continue to operate based on the lowest prices in neighboring Asia and stabilization measures to assist in stabilizing domestic oil prices. As of the end of March 2023, CPC Corporation has absorbed approximately 3.561 billion TWD.
