Controversy Over Premier Cho's Salary as Huang Yangming Exposes Actual Figures

As the U.S. imposes equivalent tariffs on Taiwan, President Lai Ching-te urges the public to 'endure hardship with added benefits,' emphasizing the resilient spirit of Taiwan. During a Legislative Yuan inquiry, KMT legislator Ke Ru-jun questioned whether Premier Cho Yong-hai, who reportedly earns about NT$400,000, should also endure hardships together with the citizens.

In response, Cho claimed that his and Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu's salaries actually do not reach NT$400,000, but rather fall between NT$200,000 and NT$300,000. In contrast, veteran media figure Huang Yangming revealed Cho's actual salary, criticizing his statements as inconsistent with the facts. Huang stated on the political commentary program 'News Dabiwha' that the monthly salary for Taiwan’s Premier is NT$371,920, as publicly available on the Civil Service Agency's website.

Huang emphasized that it is difficult to imagine a Premier lying even about their salary, and urged Cho to provide evidence to refute his claims if he feels wronged. He also commented on the topic of referendum recalls, suggesting that the current state of recalls has become somewhat absurd; however, he does not label President Lai as a dictator. Huang noted the unprecedented sweep of arrests and searches, particularly targeting the largest opposition party, which carries significant political implications. He criticized how the media largely applauds this situation, raising concerns about the state of democracy in Taiwan.
