March Unemployment Rate Data Reveals High Risk for University Graduates

The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics released its human resources survey for March 2023 today (22nd). The number of employed individuals in March was 11.61 million, a decrease of 6,000 people (0.05%) from the previous month. The number of non-labor force individuals was 8.241 million, an increase of 2,000 people (0.02%) from last month. Unemployed individuals amounted to 403,000, a rise of 1,000 (0.21%) from the previous month, leading to an unemployment rate of 3.35%, up 0.01 percentage points from the last month.

According to the report, in March, the total labor force was 12.013 million, a decrease of 5,000 people (0.04%) from last month, but an increase of 27,000 (0.23%) compared to the same period last year. The participation rate in the labor force was 59.31%, down 0.02 percentage points from the previous month. Notably, the unemployment rate among university graduates was the highest at 4.52%, while high school and graduate students reported rates of 3.13% and 2.87%, respectively.
