Trump and Xi Jinping Hold Call After 5 Months of Silence
According to Chinese state media, Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke with US President Donald Trump via phone on June 5th. This marks the first direct dialogue between the two leaders since January. Amid an escalating trade war and stalled negotiations, Trump stated in the call that he has a liking for Xi, but finds it difficult to reach an agreement. Trump had previously accused China of violating the agreed Geneva consensus, while China refuted these claims as baseless, urging the US to correct its misstatements. Additionally, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed belief that the issues between the two nations would soon be resolved at the leadership level.
