College Students Applying for Overseas Programming Jobs Fall Victim to Scam

In Taichung, two female college students applied for a job after seeing a recruitment advertisement on social media, only to end up in a scam operation in Cambodia.
The student, Li, saw an ad on Threads saying, "32,000 recruitment, earn big money, contact me," stating that work was needed in Hong Kong. Although neither had any programming experience, they thought it sounded simple and decided to apply.
However, upon arriving in Hong Kong, they were told there were no positions available and that they had to go to the 'Phnom Penh branch.' Li admitted she had never traveled abroad and did not know Phnom Penh was in Cambodia, and after getting into a car arranged by the company, they realized they had been deceived.
During their time at the scam facility, they were forced to work 12 to 15 hours a day amidst threats and could not find a way to escape.
With assistance from various sources, they were eventually rescued by local friends and returned safely to Taiwan.
