Taiwan Expresses Confidence in Trade Agreement with the U.S.

After the international trade court ruled against President Donald Trump’s equal tariff policy, a federal appeals court temporarily suspended that ruling, allowing the Trump administration to continue collecting relevant tariffs. This situation continues to draw attention to the negotiation progress between the U.S. and various countries.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chief Negotiator of the Executive Yuan's Office of Trade Negotiations, Chen Ming-chi, expressed in an interview that Taiwan is confident in completing a 'good, complete, and beautiful' agreement before the end of the 90-day suspension period imposed by the U.S.
Chen Ming-chi noted that U.S.-Taiwan trade negotiations are ongoing and communications between both parties are smooth. Even though there are still some technical details that remain to be clarified, Taiwan is committed to pushing for negotiations and hopes to secure more favorable tax rates than other countries.
Regarding energy issues, Chen confirmed that Taiwan has received an invitation from the U.S. and will send a high-level delegation to participate in the 'Sustainable Energy Conference' in early June in Alaska to discuss liquefied natural gas (LNG) procurement and related infrastructure investments.
Additionally, Chen emphasized that the New Taiwan Dollar exchange rate is not a topic of negotiation; market fluctuations are determined by the market itself.
