NT Dollar Surpasses 30 Mark, Hits Highest Closing in Over Two Years

The NT dollar against the US dollar broke the 30 mark yesterday, closing at 29.935, reaching a closing high not seen in over two years. Weakness in the dollar index and exporters selling currencies at month-end contributed to the NT dollar's rise. Analysts indicate that if it surpasses this threshold this week, it may push below 29.
With significant appreciation of the NT dollar, some exporters have expressed concerns about currency fluctuations, especially in competition with Japan and South Korea, predicting possible layoffs. Many business leaders have voiced their frustrations over the government's disregard for industry feedback.
Additionally, Trump announced the extension of tariffs on the EU, influencing the euro and Asian currencies, while the dollar index dipped below 99, a new low since late April. The NT dollar opened at 30 and quickly surpassed this mark as market adjustments were made by the central bank.
Since the beginning of this year, the NT dollar has appreciated 9.15%, surpassing other major currencies and becoming the strongest Asian currency. Industry players are monitoring future currency dynamics.
