Taiwan's Taitung Elementary School Receives Incorrect Property Tax Bill for Command Post

The Li-Jia Elementary School in Taitung County unexpectedly received a property tax bill of NT$556 for a command post on the school grounds. This is the first occurrence of a tax tracking error since the new property tax system was implemented on May 1st of this year. Principal Lin Ting-Yao indicated that an automatic computer determination led to this mistake but clarified that they can avoid paying the tax by submitting photographic evidence.

Principal Lin expressed surprise, stating that in his 16 years as principal, he had never heard of a school having to pay property tax, especially for a command post. After contacting the tax bureau, he was informed that the error resulted from an automated system check and advised institutions to provide proof of public use in order to cancel the tax. This incident has sparked discussions among the public, with many questioning the tax bureau's methods of imposing taxes.
