NT Dollar Surges; Minister Guo Calls for Calm Among Citizens

The recent surge of the NT dollar against the US dollar has raised concerns among exporters. In response, Central Bank Governor Yang Chin-long clarified in a press conference that the foreign exchange market is determined by supply and demand and revealed that the central bank is making appropriate adjustments. Economic Minister Guo Tzi-wei pointed out in an interview on Yahoo's program that the appreciation of the NT dollar significantly impacts traditional industries.
Guo stated, "The appreciation of the NT dollar will definitely affect industries, especially those using domestic materials and manufacturing in Taiwan, with businesses relying on USD pricing for exports being hit hard." He emphasized that the real risks lie mainly within traditional industries, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs will assist and remind businesses on how to mitigate risks.
Amid this rapid appreciation, Governor Yang noted the possibility of 'vultures' manipulating the exchange rate. Guo urged citizens to remain calm, emphasizing that such rapid short-term appreciation is not a normal situation.
