Nvidia Modifies AI Chip Design to Comply with US Export Restrictions for China

Nvidia is revising its AI chip design architecture to comply with the latest US government export restrictions. According to reports, the chip giant has notified major Chinese clients, including ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent, about these changes.
CEO Jensen Huang recently made a high-profile visit to China, during which he disclosed plans for new AI chips exclusive to the Chinese market. This year, Chinese tech giants have ordered over $16 billion worth of H20 chips. Since the US imposed restrictions on chip sales to China, Nvidia has been adjusting its chip designs.
Reports indicate that Nvidia plans to provide samples of the new chips as early as June. In April, the company stated that the US government unexpectedly required it to obtain special permission to continue selling H20 chips to China, leading to an anticipated loss of $5.5 billion due to export bans. As of Q1 FY2025, Nvidia achieved $17.11 billion in sales in China, accounting for approximately 13% of its total revenue of $130.5 billion.
