Ko Chih-jen Proposes Increasing National Holidays and Raising Employer Contribution for Retirement to 8% or 9%

On the eve of International Workers' Day, Kuomintang legislator Ko Chih-jen held discussions with representatives of labor unions in Kaohsiung, responding to requests for increased national holidays, reduced working hours, and enhanced retirement security for workers. Ko stated that the Kuomintang group intends to propose an increase in the number of national holidays to the committee during the current session and wishes to raise the employer contribution rate for the new retirement system from 6% to 8% or 9%.

Ko emphasized the need to pay more attention to workers' needs in light of the impact of the U.S. equivalent tariff. He supported the request for better labor conditions and retirement security made by the chairman of the New Kaohsiung Industrial Union, He Zhengjia, who pointed out that Taiwanese workers are working longer hours than their counterparts in Japan and South Korea.
