Special Budget Allocates 20 Billion to Strengthen Higher Education and Attract International Talent

The research of the Biomedical Engineering Department at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University has been published in international journals, yet faculty members express concern as many master's graduates opt not to pursue doctoral studies. Director Lai Ying-hui noted that many graduate students believe completing their master's will allow them to enter the workforce with high salaries, which is positive but also highlights a growing gap in advanced research talent.

With high salaries in the industry drawing away many graduates, improving faculty compensation is crucial to attract more talented international students and foreign faculty. The Ministry of Education announced that the Executive Yuan approved inject 20 billion NTD into higher education, focusing on recruiting international talent, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhancing campus management.

Education Ministry Higher Education Director Liao Gao-hsien stated that the government must prepare for potential shifts in international talent and plans to support schools in proposing new measures by utilizing special budgets and loosening regulations.
