Combining Expertise and Innovation: President Lan Nian-Shen Transforms Publicly Owned Life Insurance

Lan Nian-Shen, the president of Hsinchu Life Insurance, is a Malaysian Chinese with over a decade of experience in the insurance industry. Hsinchu Life is a public joint venture between Hsinchu Financial Holding and the French banking giant BNP Paribas. Lan took office as president in 2022, emphasizing the need for innovation in the public financial system.
He believes that insurance companies require not only expertise but also innovative thinking. A graduate of National Chengchi University, he obtained a master's degree from Cardiff Business School in the UK and has extensive experience across Asia. Lan aims to inspire fresh ideas through unique management methods.
Since 2013, Hsinchu Life has collaborated with the Family Caregivers Association, providing innovative support services, such as experimental 'Care Cafés', which not only assist caregivers but also enhance the brand image. Lan emphasizes that the philosophy of insurance includes professionalism, stability, and the image of guardianship, advocating for value-added services in product offerings to enhance customer experience.
The Taiwanese insurance market has a high penetration rate but lacks proportion in protection-type products. Lan points out that compared to Southeast Asian countries, which have a higher percentage of protection policies, Taiwan must improve its structure for protection-type products while aligning with IFRS 17 to enhance customer service.
