AI Technology Disrupts Traditional Translation Jobs, Experienced Translator Successfully Transitions to Semiconductor Process Engineer

Reported by 彭慧婉 from Taoyuan: The Ministry of Labor's Workforce Development Agency, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli Branches, in collaboration with National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, has established a "Talent Development Base for Semiconductors and Key Technology Industries." Since 2022, they have been offering courses such as semiconductor manufacturing, semiconductor and optoelectronics, and electronic circuit system design to meet industry demand.

Chen Yu-Hsien, who previously worked as an academic translator for 12 years, faced job challenges due to the rapid advancement of AI translation technology. He decided to enroll in the "Electronics Circuit Semiconductor Talent Training Course." Despite the challenges posed by complex technical terminology, his translation skills and dedication allowed him to successfully transition into a process engineer role.

Chen Yong-Fu, Vice President of Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, mentioned that the courses at the talent base start with fundamental theories and gradually introduce practical applications to enhance participants' skills. Lai Chia-Jen, the branch director, stated that since the program's inception, 798 participants have been trained, with nearly 80% securing employment in related tech industries, especially from non-engineering backgrounds.

Moving forward, the base will continue to offer a wide array of professional training courses covering popular technology topics, and those interested in transitioning to the tech industry can register through "Taiwan Employment Portal."
