NVIDIA (NVDA) Earnings Report Set to Reveal: Will the China-Specific Chip B40 Break Through Restrictions? Challenges Ahead for 3% Growth

NVIDIA (NVDA) is scheduled to release its latest earnings report on May 28, Eastern Time. With the full-scale production of the Blackwell chip, performance is expected to exceed financial forecasts. However, what the market is closely watching is whether NVIDIA can break free from the US AI ban to launch the Blackwell chip, specifically targeting the Chinese market. This week, the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics will also release the latest economic forecast. Despite benefiting from urgent orders, Taiwan's GDP growth has surged past 5% in the first quarter. Still, in light of forthcoming counter tariffs, the director-general admitted, “Maintaining a 3% growth for the entire year poses some difficulties.”

NVIDIA will unveil its earnings report this Wednesday (May 28), and as a leading AI chip manufacturer, forward-looking indicators have drawn significant attention from tech circles and investors alike. Since the end of last year into the early part of this year, AI servers using the Blackwell chip have begun significant shipment increases, with market expectations positioned for performance to exceed forecasts. Additionally, there is anticipation for NVIDIA to potentially release the specialized “B40” series chips targeting the Chinese market. CEO Jensen Huang stated during his visit to Taiwan that America’s restrictions are detrimental, as the Chinese AI market is worth $50 billion. Missing out on this opportunity would be a pity. According to NVIDIA's financial projections, revenue is expected to reach $43 billion, with a 65% year-over-year increase. With the introduction of the GB 300 set for mass production in the second half of the year, the market also expects further surprises. Despite being a victim of chip export restrictions, NVIDIA is reportedly working to sell chips to China and aims to introduce the more affordable B40 chip, which avoids US export controls by not using TSMC’s CoWoS packaging. CEO Huang emphasized that the US government's controls are misguided, as NVIDIA’s market share in China has dropped from 95% four years ago to 50% now, with the majority of market share captured by competing technologies developed in China.
