Taiwan Dollar Surge Impacts Export Profit, Peng Shuanglang Calls for Corporate Transformation

Finance Center / Yang Simin, Wu Zhiheng Taipei Reporting
In two weeks, the Taipei International Computer Show will take place, and a forum was held today to warm up for the event. Peng Shuanglang, chairman of the Taipei Computer Association, discussed the recent rapid appreciation of the Taiwan dollar, stating that although the electronics industry usually engages in currency hedging to mitigate short-term impacts, profit margins are still affected.

He emphasized that the appreciation of the Taiwan dollar reflects a strong economic condition in Taiwan, with a nearly 10% rise in just half a month, directly impacting profit ability. He urged companies to consider how to create added value during this process of appreciation.

The Taipei International Computer Show will be held at the Nangang Exhibition Center in two weeks, and the forum has invited representatives from companies like Wistron, Intel, Advantech, and ASUS to participate. Peng noted that over 30 years ago, the Taiwan dollar reached over 24 to 1, and companies experienced multiple exchange rate fluctuations that led to transformation, suggesting that similar re-evaluation is necessary in light of the current currency appreciation.
